Marriage and Fiancé Applications
Any noncitizen who has married a citizen or permanent resident of the United States can apply for a green card. Spouses of citizens can normally obtain a green card more rapidly than other applicants. If the spouse of a citizen entered the U.S. properly, with inspection, we should be able to complete all processing within the U.S., often within about a year. Other cases will require multiple applications, take more time and more complex.
Marriage interviews at the USCIS Hartford Field Office are often difficult. Relaxed twenty-minute interviews have given way to one- or two-hour interrogations where the couple are often separated. We will help you to carefully document your relationship so that your interview ends in approval rather than in long delays, a notice of intent to deny or denial. Doing this correctly up front makes an huge difference in your case.
Fiancé visas are for fiancés, living abroad, of U.S. citizens. These cases require a fiancé petition filed in the U.S., followed by an interview at a U.S. Consulate in the applicant’s home country. then the couple marry in the U.S. and proceed with further applications in the U.S. and an interview at the local USCIS office. In recent years, complications have become common at each step.
